Cafe Diego is a new Argentinian themed cafe/takeaway bringing the soul of Argentina into the heart of Abu Dhabi. Designed by Armenian based Backbone Branding , the cafe is a celebration of both Argentina and Diego Maradona. Drawing inspiration from the colourful Argentinian backstreets, architecture and street art from the less affluent districts the design pays homage to the streets where Diego learnt his trade. The colours used capture South America beautifully and the type provides a throwback to Maradona’s heyday. It all feels very South American without feeling fake, which is extremely impressive considering it’s been designed in a country sandwiched between Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
“Developed to be a take away café, the essence of the brand is mostly expressed in the medias of the brand identity, with its black & white and colourful elements. The packaging is specially developed for take away, as it is so self-sufficient to live out of the café.”
The look is a little gritty, a little vibrant, and it toes the line between honouring a history and embracing a modern appearance. It allows visitors to clearly sense the Argentinian flavour without being hit over the head with it.
