Santa Monica Yacht Club is a bar focused seafood restaurant centred on handcrafted cocktails and small plates created by award-winning chef Andrew Kirschner. The branding was created by Farm Design, a studio based in Pasadena – California. This included the identity, website, environmental graphics, menus and the brand voice. The architecture for the restaurant was created by Peter Tolkin Architectures a Californian design practice specialising in institutional, commercial, and residential architecture.
Chef Andrew Kirschner, a Santa Monica native, began developing a sincere appreciation for travel, food, and wine early when, at fifteen, he landed a summer job in the kitchen of a local restaurant. Like many chefs, his culinary journey started as a job and quickly turned into a passion.
Kirschner established a name for himself with his flagship restaurant, Tar & Roses, merging classical cuisine with modern sensibilities, and a wood-burning oven standing as the heart of the concept. In its first year, not only did Tar & Roses earn a James Beard nomination for Best New Restaurant, but Kirschner, too, was nominated for Best Chef, West. His newest restaurant, Santa Monica Yacht Club (SMYC) is a complement to Tar & Roses, and touts a globally-inspired seafood menu featuring shareable dishes, raw bar, and craft cocktail program.
